heat stroke in the name of art

Town Lake -- Austin, TX

swans2.jpg

Five swans swam close to shore for a while as we wandered along Town Lake. I ran ahead a few times so I could take their picture as they caught up to me. I took a bunch of pictures of them in various configurations -- they look so placid here.

(Fair warning: Many more pictures below. Slow connections be wary.)

From the deck at Mozart's, there's a great view of the boaters enjoying Labor Day weekend on Lake Austin, the upstream version of Town Lake.

Two canoers rest underneath one of the bridge over Town Lake.

trees.jpg

The trees had a nice reflection in the water, and turtles and birds used the foliage as hiding space.

Black swans swim in Shoal Creek, alongside Town Lake. They were very friendly until they started trying to peck Claudia. She was probably trying to kiss them or something. :)

A serene inlet on Town Lake.

Lots of kayakers and canoers were enjoying the hot day on the water.

downtown2.jpg

Downtown Austin -- it's not big, but it's home.

This mockingbird sang sweetly in the tree until we took his picture.

memorial.jpg

This Catholic war veterans' memorial reminds me a bit of the pictures Trev took in the mission graveyard in San Francisco. It's much more contemporary, but when I saw it, I thought of him and snapped a shot.

URGENT!!!
Could someone tell us how we might get permission to use the photo of the black swans in our efforts to get the city of Austin to preserve the habitat where they are now nesting.
It is under immediate threat of being bull-dozed!

Thanks,
Linda
