Rural New Mexico: The Road Goes On Forever

We were somewhere north of Deming, New Mexico, when we stopped along the side of the road to take pictures of the Nothing, as we came to describe the vast acres of desolate land with only scrub brush to keep the sandy soil from blowing away in the end. This backroad was rural enough not to have much traffic, so we walked into the middle and took a picture of the road as it continued straight to the horizon. In my mind, it's a symbol of the entire road trip, where for 4,000 miles, the road went on forever.

Rachel, this is definitely my favorite of all these travel photos. The clouds appear to be so low in altitude that it almost seems that 18-wheelers could skim the bottoms of them. And such crispness to the image, too! I may make this into my desktop background for the week.

Great shot. Love the color contrast and the composition. A definite journey photo.

The perspective of the empty road is breath-taking & the clouds steal the show. Nice!

I would love a larger version for my personal use!
