Wintry Thoughts

The other night, I was walking around the house wearing three layers of shirts, a parka, two pairs of pants, a pair of snow boots, a scarf, and a toque. It was about 60F out that night, so I was rather toasty under all that clothes. The snow boots arrived last week, and the parka arrived a few days ago, all in preparation for my next trip to Saskatchewan, in about two weeks.

I'm... excited and terrified, really. It doesn't help that half the people who hear about my trip exclaim in dismay, "You're going to Canada? In February?"

And yes, I am going to Canada in February. I imagine it'll be in the 70s in Texas when I leave, and considerably colder when I arrive in Saskatoon. I've been assured that my fingers and toes will not separate themselves from my hands and feet, that the blast of sheer cold won't cause a massive heart attack, and that I will not freeze into a Rachel-sicle. Actually, I haven't been assured of that last bit, but I'm still hopeful.

It's been a mild winter this year, which is a relief on some levels, but I would like some snow to play in and some frost to photograph. I don't think that's so much to ask.

In other news, ice skating was much easier when I was shorter and not so afraid of falling.

That is all.
