- The worst part about C being gone for so long is that there's nobody else in the world who speaks the language we've invented. So when I say that someone parked like a doorknob, people look at me like I'm crazy.
- It isn't that I have nothing to write about. On the contrary, I've been keeping myself very busy all summer. I keep half-writing entries, then not posting them.
- I learned to kayak last month. My new favorite place in Austin is water-level on Town Lake at sunset. It's magical, truly. I haven't been brave enough to take the camera yet -- I need to invest in a waterproof bag to protect it, just in case.
- On the other hand, I was brave enough to take my camera (three cameras, to be more accurate) to Hamilton Pool, rather near the waterfall, and to wade out into the shallow water that sits over a rock shelf, to take pictures there. I got some nice ones, both film and digital. I haven't posted them yet. Yeah, I know.
- I did, however, post some pictures I took while in Corpus Christi for my grandfather's funeral last month. They begin here. I'm going to Corpus Christi again this weekend, and I'll be lobbying to visit Hans Suter park at sunset, rather than in the morning, when we usually go, to try to get some nice bird shots with my fancy-schmancy telephoto lens.
- I'll be going to New Orleans next weekend for my sister's (rather belated) wedding reception. She's been married for over a year and a half. I'll be taking two or three cameras. I'm looking forward to actually taking pictures of New Orleans this time.
- I took a class in alternative photo processing over the summer. It was great fun, though I spent as much time doing traditional black and white film printing as I did anything else. I have a bunch of prints to scan and post. Someday. I'm considering buying a Daylab to do some polaroid processes on my own.
- I made some prints to give my mom for her birthday earlier this month. I framed some black and white pictures from the ranch, and she loved them, so we spent a good part of a weekend (and some time after) framing photos I've made. Y'know, my work looks pretty nice in a frame, and I like signing them. I could get used to that. We made frames for a few other people, too, and one to take to the ranch.
- I hate this layout at the moment. I'll try to change it up soon.
- See there? Now I'm caught up. I'll try not to fall behind again.

Hey, we're going to New Orleans next weekend too. No special reason other than to see the little nieces and nephew ... and maybe stop at a Waffle House on the road. I should email you.

Oh, my god, you're alive. I started to worry that I am turning into your grandmother, because I had *unreasonable* ;) worries about knowing what you were up to. The Cs and the Rs said you're "hard to get a hold of" so I did worry (a little). Welcome back. And "parking like a doorknob" is proper English, at least in my world.

Wow. I'm sorry about your grandfather, Rachel. I had no idea, or I certainly would've called or written, or somehow got in touch. So glad to see you post something, though. I was wondering if you'd given up the blog. I really liked the new picture of the bottles at your grandma's house-Jean (remember our head resident?) gave me a framed picture she'd taken of some lovely backlit glass bottles for graduation. Simply lovely. I'm headed to Louisiana next weekend, too...something about in-laws and gambling? *shrug* This will definitely be a new experience.
